After winning last season's edition, Manchester United FC led the registrations to the UEFA Champions League 2008/09, which ends on Wednesday 27 May 2009 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome; the question that arises is "can they repeat?"
Last season, Manchester United could say that the dubious had their best season in a long period of time. Cristiano Ronaldo (Premier League top scorer and World Player of the Year) and Wayne Rooney helped win two major titles, the ยูฟ่าประกาศเลื่อนแข่ง the UEFA Champions League. Both earned millions of euros.
The question this year will be in what order the 'big four' are placed. Can any team break into the elite group of clubs that dominate English football? I would say it is possible !! Looking further down the league; can the newly promoted teams survive in the Premier League? Why not! They are already prepared.
Look at the 'big four'. Manchester United have not brought in new bodies (not that they need), but have lost someone important, Tony Coton. Why will Coton be missed? Simple, best goalkeeping coach Manchester United have ever had, and despite the knee injury pulling him back for good, he will be someone to seek advice in the future.
Man Utd have survived the 'Ronaldo saga' and are living to fight another day. All in all, it has been a quiet summer for Manchester United. Alex Ferguson has over the last few days said he hopes to sign an elite player soon (the name Robinho still pops into my head).
I do not like to predict, but expect Man Utd to be in the top two, otherwise I can predict the future and say that injuries can play a role. Why? Besides the fact that this championship is played in a "battlefield", it has happened before injuries to key men like Ronaldo, Rooney or Tevez that they could fight to score goals. this was a problem that occurred at times last season, but as mentioned earlier, Ferguson is tracking a striker and this could put an end to any apparent mistakes in the squad.
How much is Chelsea now willing to risk winning this year? Well, Scolari, Deco, Porto ... shall I say more? Of course, I do what with the dramatic change in tactics. Chelsea go all the way, so do not be surprised to see them play another UEFA final match against Manchester United again. You may be wondering "will Chelsea focus more on the Champions League instead of the Premier League?" That kind of rational ambition could be the title near Manchester.
