Places to visit in Yorkshire

Yorkshire is the largest county in England and has many charming and interesting places to visit. From large industrial towns, small rural towns and villages, enticing moors and a wonderful coastline, White Rose County offers the visitor an enticing mix of sights and activities.

Yorkshire is also steeped in history. The Bronte sisters, who wrote such classics as Jane Eyre and Wuthering ยอร์คเชียร์ the village of Haworth in the western part of the county. Further north, the Whitby resort is famous as the birthplace of Captain Cook. Bram Stoker, the author of the Dracula stories now famous through horror movements, based many of his stories around the city of North Yorkshire.

Near Ripon in North Yorkshire, visitors can also appreciate the county's rich history with a visit to Fountains Abbey, a ruined Cistercian monastery founded in the 12th century. North Yorkshire is also adorned with the wonderful heaths and in its valleys sit beautiful small towns like Skipton.

In South Yorkshire, the rejuvenated city is Sheffield. Sheffield has changed incredibly over the last few years and is well worth a visit. North of town is the rugged cliffs dotted with the Pennines, a popular spot for hikers. To the south, Sheffield is also a starting point for a walk in near the Derbyshire hills.

No trip to Yorkshire is complete without a trip to its historic county town of York. York is a lovely place for the visitor. It boasts the famous Minster and also the Cliffords Tower, which dates back to Norman times. And for a real feel of York and its historic past, no visit to the city is complete without a path down the famous Shambles that sees its cozy shops - a wonderful place to buy gifts, souvenirs and souvenirs.

In East Yorkshire, if you want to see a great example of modern technology, you can see the Humber Bridge, which is the fifth largest suspension bridge with a single span, but even though it was first built, it was actually the longest. It connects the eastern part of the county with North Lincolnshire, and an average of 120,000 vehicles cross it each week.

The East Yorkshire coast with its rich golden sands is also a delight. An exciting way to appreciate the region's coastline is to take a ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The Yorkshire seaside resorts of Bridlington and Scarborough are popular with day trips and holidaymakers in the north of England and beyond. For cricket buffers, Scarborough is also home to the Yorkshire County Cricket Club's annual festival.
