Web design: first impressions can be last

The perfect web page is not only nice to look at, it is also easy to use. Most web visitors stay only a few seconds before leaving your site. That is a sad fact that you must accept. There is no second chance for a first impression, as they say. You must capture their attention and keep it.

Here are some of the most frequently overused designs that you may do well to avoid.

Background music

Music has become so abusive and misused that it is downright annoying. If a visitor listens to music without asking for it, they can leave. If they hear the same music again on every page they visit, you can bet it won't be long before they're gone forever. If you have a music site and have samples for visitors to listen to, that's another story, but at least give them the option to turn it off or on at will. Don't force them to listen. Personally, I leave my asyncapi because I'm sick of everything. I especially hate when a person on the screen starts talking to me when I didn't press the play button. Also, the music takes longer to load and the visitor can leave before the music plays because they are tired of waiting.Client / Server code generation

Pop-up windows

Pop-ups used to be cute; used to be. Now I find them another one of the so annoying attempts to register you or buy something. I realize that we are all in this business to make money and we must all use the devices available, but use some common sense and don't hit people with all these techniques at once, a little goes a long way. .

Here are some essential practices to follow:

Give your visitor an easy way to find what they're looking for by including a navigation menu, a sitemap, and maybe even a search bar if you have a lot of information on your site.

Pay attention to the font size so that your pages are easy to read. Too big a guy creates a weird looking page and too small makes people squint or, worse, leave completely.

Don't use weird color combinations unless your site is artistic or very esoteric. For example, you will see a black background with white lettering, but I can hardly bear to look at it!
Be careful not to abuse images and be careful about the size of your files. Large files cause pages to load slowly and then you face the same situation - people leave before the page loads. Most image editing programs have the ability to reduce file size.
Make sure all the links on your site are working. It is also clear that you should test all the links on your site before placing it on the web. Broken links are a sure sign of sloppy work.
Make more paragraph breaks than you would normally do in written work. This makes it easier to scroll and read and keeps your visitor on the page.
Please check your site in different browsers as not all of them behave the same way. . The most important is Internet Explorer, but many people prefer Mozilla Firefox in addition to others.

Hire a designer?

You can see that there is a lot to think about when it comes to web design. There are many ways to quickly create a simple website. Many hosts have web templates where you upload images and write them directly on the page. This is fine for an informal site and for the initial learning phase, but it soon gets old and looks just like everyone else. You can buy software designed for this purpose, which is what most people do, or you can hire a designer if you have the funds and don't have the desire or time to teach yourself.

If, for example, you are a business owner and you use the website to sell products, you will have a lot to do instead of spending countless hours learning the web design process. There is a time to hire a designer and it makes sense not to waste all your time doing everything in your business. After all, you cannot be the accountant, human resources manager, warehouse manager, and web designer. You need to focus on the big picture. If, on the other hand, you are a work-at-home business, you may find it useful and perhaps necessary to do everything yourself.
